Nikolai Wavetamer, born to a Japanese veterinary-specialist mother and a Mdewakanton Sioux father, who worked as a public relations representative for the Birdtail Sioux First Nation Community of Manitoba, Canada.
There was quite the cultural mosiac surrounding his "tiny" family of three but such things were hardly "relevant" in the mind of young Nikolai. At 10yrs old, having spent most of his life on the reservation instead of bouncing from place to place with his mother, Nikolai was more content to frolic with the other kids and play double-dutch, instead of following the lessons his mother had left him or being taught the things that Sioux fathers pass on to their sons. 2 years prior he had seen a feature on Sesame Street about the sport and instantly fell in love. It consumed him and he trained as often as he could by himself but soon realised that he would need to get his friends into the sport as well thus it came as no wonder that up to the day Nikolai left, he was known as the "double-dutch" king among the kids of the reservation.
It was a lovely day, Nikolai and his friends usually set out into the forest once a fortnight during the summer vacation to meet at their "secret" campout spot, where they played, told scary stories, spent the night and then made their way back to the reservation. The parents were usually cool about the trip since there weren't any "secret" spots that they collectively were unaware of. Nikolai packed his backpack with everything that he needed, especially the SWISS army knife that his Dad had given him. His Dad had just recently taught him how to fish and cook his catch over an open fire and he was excited to show this off to his friends. He waved goodbye to his Dad and set off.
The wind was blowing nicely through his hair as he darted though the bush. He was early, so he decided that he should take his butterfly net and go fishing in the lake just below the campsite to gain proof of his newly acquired skillz. He took the track down to the lake when something glistened in the corner of his eye, so Nikolai moved away the bush that was surrounding his discovery only to reveal a remarkable piece of rock. It was like nothing he had ever seen before and definitely something that he should take to the others.
So he reached for it...
