David Cross was was what most people considered a lucky, lucky man. A wife, a son and one of the most succesful business empires on Earth.
Unlike what you would expect though, he was hardly an office person or a home person or even a party animal. David was an adventurer. And like any good husband and father he always took his family along with him. Surfing in the pacific, cave diving in the southern US, paragliding and skyboarding over the country side in Wales.....And this particular time, snowboarding in the Alps.
Today, like most others, his wife opted to stay back at the cabin and let "the boys" enjoy themselves. David and his nineteen year old son made plans to parachute from a helicopter unto one of the higher slopes land and snowboard down to the base. They would stop halfway spend the night on the mountain camping.
The day started out pretty normally, no hitches, nothing going particularly wrong, as David was accustomed to.
The pair jumped from David's private helicoter and sky boarded onto the mountain. As was their usual, they criss crossing, racing and trying to out stunt eachother. This was what David lived for, his son, the competition they always had, the bond they had developed over the years.
A perfect day, a perfect slope, perfect company. David felt like he was in heaven. He didn't even notice when the mountain side started shaking. It was his on who looked back and first saw it and alerted David's attention. He looked back and saw what was probably one of the largest avalanches he he'd ever seen racing down the mountain. Around this time the snow began to shke off the rocks around them as they decended, trying to out run the ensuing wave of ice. David noted with some confusion the strange difference in colour of some the rocks.
He had no time the study this oddity, a section of high jutting rock caused his son to go down a different path to himself. David hit off one the rocks luanching him into the air. When landed he regained sight of his son. They looked at each other briefly then focused their energies bacck on the task at hand. David skillfully weaved around the sharp jutting rocks which became more and more frequent as they decended. His son, diplayed similar skills altough it seemed there were more rocks down his path than his father.
David watched with pride as his own flesh and blood showed the skill that too once had as a youngster. He thought to himself that he would have to admit that his son was a better snowboarder than him when they got down. But they would have to get down.
As David wathed on, his son tried to mimic his father's earlier trick and hit off one of the rocks. To David's disbelief, part of the avalanche seemed to break off in the form of a gigantic "mouth" and "swallow" part of the mountain side along with his son.
Wide eyed and unbelieving, David barely had time to register the loss of his son when he went flying off the edge of a cliff. he had been too distracted watching his son's demise to notice the edge comming up. As he fell and looked behind him at the tons of snow and ice waiting to bury him when his death plumet ended, David's eyes filled up with tears. He uttered only word before he crashed into the ground, the name he died with his mind, the name of his son......"Fox".
Four days of Searching later..........
A man clad in US army winter surrvival kit walks up to the door of a posh Alpine cabin and hesitates before he knocks sharply on the oak door.
A tall thin black woman answers the door and simply says, "she's inside." She reverendly calls out "sis?" in the living room a woman very similar in appeareance sits crying, surrounded by two other women one looking like her mother the other could pass for another sister.
The soldier steps in and lowers his head as he removes his head gear, "Ma'am i'm afraid....I have some bad news...."
The woman lets out a loud scream and is immediately the three other women seek to comfort her.
"I'm sorry Mrs Cross,' the soldier says. He removes his head gear turns and purposely closes the door quietly as he leaves.
